Prosecutor's Perspective: Cold Case Unit
Prosecutor's Perspective: Cold Case Unit
Not every case is solved right away — but that doesn’t mean it’s forgotten.
In this episode, we introduce one of the most impactful and forward-looking teams in the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office: the Cold Case and Sexual Assault Kit Initiative (SAKI) and Cold Case Unit. 2025 marks the 10th anniversary of SAKI, a program that has helped bring justice to survivors of sexual violence and hold serial offenders accountable. With the support of more than $3.8 million in new federal funding, Dallas County has expanded its efforts through the Cold Case Initiative Project, allowing prosecutors and investigators to reexamine unsolved violent crimes using today’s advanced technology.
In this video, you’ll hear from the prosecutors and leaders behind this work as they discuss:
-How cold case sexual assaults and homicides are being reopened
-The use of DNA testing and investigative genetic genealogy
-Partnerships with law enforcement, forensic experts, and federal agencies
-The importance of keeping victims and families informed and supported
Justice may take time, but the Cold Case Unit remains committed to never giving up on survivors, families, or the pursuit of accountability.
