The Civil Division of the Dallas County District Attorney’s Office provides the County’s elected officials and department heads with advice and counsel on complex legal issues and litigation matters relating to their daily duties. The division represents the Dallas County government, which is comprised of 51 elected officials and 36 departments.

Unlike the majority of divisions within the District Attorney’s Office, the attorneys in the Civil Division office in the Dallas County Administration Building (411 Elm Street, 5th Floor, Dallas, TX 75202). Normal business hours are Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm, closed on major holidays.

Types of Services:

The attorneys handle a variety of civil lawsuits, claims, and civil matters typically including: personal injury; property damage; civil rights; injunctive relief; employment matters; contract disputes; condemnations; mental health commitments; and occupational drivers licenses, to name a few.

Occupational Driver's Licenses:

This office signs waivers for occupational driver's licenses; however, it is not involved in the hearings. The signing of the waiver by this office does not grant any driving privileges or license. The waiver is generally required by the judge in connection with the judge’s consideration of a petition for occupational driver’s license. In order for a waiver to be granted, you must provide the following documents:

  1. File Stamped Copy of the Original Petition
  2. A Copy of your SR-22 Insurance Policy
  3. A Copy of your Driving Record

Waivers are granted during normal business hours.
