For CDC week 2, DCHHS is reporting a cumulative total of 598,978 confirmed cases of 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in Dallas County. The cumulative total probable case count in Dallas County is 166,800. This week, a total of 171 cases of COVID-19 were reported within 14 days of specimen collection date, and a total of 7,409 deaths in Dallas County residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19 illness.

To date, a total of 5,536 cases with SARS-CoV-2 variants have been identified and investigated in residents of Dallas County, including 290 cases of B.1.1.7 (Alpha); 4 cases of B.1.351 (Beta); 1,900 cases of B.1.617.2 (Delta); 31 cases of B.1.427 (Epsilon); 29 cases of P.1 (Gamma); 15 cases of B.1.526 (Iota); 5 cases of C.37 (Lambda); 4 cases of B.1.621 (Mu); 3,255 cases of B.1.1.529 (Omicron); and 3 cases of P.2 (Zeta). Eight hundred and fifty-seven cases have been hospitalized and 130 have died. Six hundred and forty-six COVID-19 variant cases were reinfections. Additionally, 2,901 people were considered fully vaccinated before contracting a COVID-19 variant.

For week 2, area hospital labs report steady numbers and proportions of respiratory specimens that are positive for other respiratory viruses by molecular tests: parainfluenza (2.7%), rhinovirus/enterovirus (18.7%), and RSV (19.5%).

There is currently 1 active long-term care facility outbreak. There has been a total of 16,974 COVID-19 cases in long term care facilities: 10,523 residents and 6,451 staff members. Of these, 1,741 have been hospitalized and 1,169 have died of COVID.

There has been 0 outbreak of COVID-19 in a congregate-living facility (e.g. homeless shelters, group homes, and halfway homes) reported within the past 30 days. A cumulative total of 1,459 residents and staff members (1,071 residents and 388 staff) in congregate-living facilities in Dallas have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
