In accordance with the Local Government Code Title 4, the county clerk must maintain a registry of the court to receive payments of judgments, bonds, and other funds ordered to be paid by the Court; which means that all funds paid  related to court cases are put on deposit with the county clerk and the Clerk is responsible for  holding in trust for safe keeping those accounts for minors who receive money resulting from a civil case, for incapacitate individuals who are involved in a probate court matter, as well as holding in trust other funds ordered to be placed in the registry of the court. 

The county clerk is also responsible for ensuring that we make individuals aware of any money we are holding on their behalf. In the instances when we are unable to locate those individuals, we are required to turn the money over to the State, as “unclaimed funds.”

The Accounting & Trust Division manages approximately 1,300 accounts on behalf of minors and incapacitated persons.

Accounting & Trust is also responsible for the collection of court cost and fines assessed in the criminal misdemeanor courts.

Accounting & Trust is also responsible for auditing the financial or money handling processes in each of the other divisions, as well as monitor all funds collected and disbursements to and from the county clerk special funds.
