The Felony Trial Division prosecutes all felonies committed in Dallas County that are not assigned to a special section. The felonies include cases ranging from state jail offenses (the lowest level felony offense) to capital murder. The Felony Trial Division is the backbone of the prosecutor’s office.
Courts and Staffing
Dallas County has 17 District Courts that focus exclusively on criminal matters. The Felony Trial Division staffs each of these courts.
In each court, three prosecutors and one investigator represent the State of Texas. This team will review cases, conduct additional investigation, interview witnesses and victims, make plea agreement or dismissal decisions, and try assigned cases to a judge or jury.
Due to the critical nature of its work, this division is staffed with prosecutors who possess extensive trial experience.
