The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Investigators independently assists the assigned Assistant District Attorneys in gathering pertinent data, identifying significant factors and recognizing solutions for cases. There are seventeen (17) Felony courts, each with three prosecutors in the Frank Crowley Court building. There are in addition to the Felony courts fourteen (14) Misdemeanor courts. The investigators locate, collect, and prepare evidence for trial or plea negotiations, review various reports and other related documentation or evidence in reference to offenses, and aid in planning and organizing to prepare cases for disposition. Additionally, they assist in reconstructing events, sequences, and time elements in preparation of criminal cases. They also interview and notify witnesses of trial dates by means of serving subpoenas, summons, writs and/or making arrests. The Dallas County District Attorney’s Office Investigators also coordinate transportation and lodging of trial witnesses and conduct background checks of witnesses that may be used during trial. They also assist with jury selection process and trial presentations.

In addition to the Felony and Misdemeanor courts Investigators are assigned to other sections such as Crimes Against Children, Civil, Family Violence, Specialized Crime, Grand Jury, Community Response, Conviction Integrity, State Jail, Elderly Abuse, Organized Crime, Juvenile, Appellate, Public Integrity, the Gang unit, and the Sexual Assault unit.
