The sexual assault unit is a specialized division of the District Attorney’s Office dedicated to prosecuting perpetrators of sexual assault and trafficking. This specialized unit is comprised of specially trained prosecutors, investigators and victim advocates who are dedicated to seeking justice for those who have survived crimes of sexual assault.

This unit handles all cases of sexual assault, labor and sexual trafficking occurring to victims who are at least 17 years of age or older. It was created to specifically address victim service issues and to provide a heightened level of expertise to these serious cases. The members of this unit also serve as active members in the Dallas County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) in a multi-disciplinary team effort to meet regularly with community partners such as law enforcement, forensic specialists, advocates and sexual assault exam nurses to provide training and participate in crime prevention and education efforts.

This unit is also part of a national initiative to test previously untested sexual assault kits. This unit is the recipient of approximately $4.5 million in federal grants to fund the investigation and prosecution of any cases that are solved out of this project. If you are a survivor of sexual assault and would like more information regarding the status of testing for your sexual assault kit, you may send an email to DallasKits@dallascounty.org or call 972-955-4923. For more information regarding the work the Sexual Assault Unit is doing under this initiative, please visit www.sakitta.org/Dallas/.
