Dallas County District Attorney Investigators are sworn Peace Officers in the State of Texas. Many investigators have years of experience in the community with other law enforcement agencies and a good reputation. DA Investigators are still law enforcement officers, but their role is more like Detectives within the court system.


  1. Clean criminal history and good driving record
  2. Graduate from High School or complete GED
  3. Graduate from a Law Enforcement Academy
  4. Pass the licensing test at the end of the Academy called the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer Proficiency Certification
  5. Years of experience as law enforcement officer (usually start in Patrol and work up to Detective)
  6. No major incidents at prior law enforcement agency
