Community Gardens

Community gardens are collaborative projects on shared open spaces where volunteers share the maintenance and produce of the garden, including healthy and affordable fresh fruits and vegetables.

Gardens offer physical and mental health benefits by providing opportunities to

  • Eat healthy fresh fruits and vegetables
  • Engage in physical activity
  • Decrease violence in some communities
  • Improve social well-being through strengthening social connections

In an effort to promote effective gardening practices the CDPD is partnering with Dallas County AgriLife Extension to provide and/or sponsor trainings. This training includes:

Community Garden Financial Assistance: Financial assistance is available every year to financially support existing garden projects or to establish new ones.

Farm Stands

Farm stands are created to increase access to fresh and affordable fruits and vegetables.

Farmers Market Project

The Farmers Market Project partners with local stakeholders to establish new Farmers Market in food deserts to increase access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables. See below for recent partnerships.

Mobile Market (Wellness on Wheels)

With the goal of improving health and access to nutritious food. The DCHHS will have a Mobile Farmer's Market that provides affordable fresh fruits and vegetables to Dallas County Residents.
