Dallas County Health and Human Services offers multiple housing assistance programs that accommodate the needs of Dallas County residents as they progress from renting to owning their own home.

Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly known as Section 8)

This program helps low to moderate income residents rent decent, safe, and sanitary housing. The program provides financial assistance, counseling, and housing inspection services. Applications for assistance are accepted when the waiting list is open. THE LIST IS CURRENTLY CLOSED.

Family Self-Sufficiency Program

This program provides supportive services to enable participants to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. The program assists eligible Housing Choice Voucher Program participants with their basic educational needs, development of employment skills and training. Program participation can last up to five years, during which time participants must seek and maintain suitable employment.
