Program Summary

DEAC - Wrongful Eviction Prevention Program provides essential legal aid and resources to support indigent residents facing wrongful evictions. Established by the Dallas County Commissioners Court in partnership with the Dallas Eviction Advocacy Center (DEAC), the program ensures compliance with Texas eviction laws while protecting vulnerable tenants from unjust removal. By preventing unnecessary homelessness, it promotes a safer, more stable community and enhances Dallas County’s reputation as a desirable place to live and do business. Together, Dallas County and DEAC are dedicated to safeguarding the rights of residents and fostering community stability.

The program provides legal support to indigent residents at or below 200% of the federal poverty level who are facing wrongful eviction, ensuring that assistance is reserved exclusively for individuals who lack the financial means to afford legal representation. The program operates through two primary forms of assistance: (1) full representation cases and (2) advice-only services, ensuring tailored support to meet the specific needs of each individual. DEAC proactively contacts individuals facing eviction to inform them about the availability of legal assistance through this program, specifically designed for those who cannot afford to hire an attorney on their own.

Eligibility

Eligible individuals must self-certify that they are at or below 200% of the federal poverty guideline, sign a retainer agreement with DEAC, and complete an intake sheet to qualify for services, with all required forms provided by DEAC.
